Weekend Reflections

This is the photograph of the wooden Tiger toy of Tipu Sultan . The original is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. The photograph is in a glass case, adorning one ofthe walls of Tipu Sultan's Palace in Bangalore. Tipu Sultan was a ruler of Mysore in the 18th century. The British East India Company with its expansionist ideas was his greatest enemy. When the handle of the toy is turned, the wooden tiger makes fearful growling sounds, and its wooden British victim howls .
The palace of Tipu Sultan is a wooden construction of 1790. It is still hauntingly beautiful. The old mahogany pillars are chocolate coloured. The mahogany panels in the roof reflect the light from the window.
